Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: Everything We Know So Far on the Redesigned Flip Phone

Samsung fans, get ready— the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is just around the corner, and rumors are already flying about its next-gen features. After seeing Motorola take the lead with the Razr 60 Ultra in early 2025, all eyes are on Samsung to see how they’ll shake up the clamshell foldable scene. Will the Z Flip 7 deliver the big design changes we’ve been craving, or will it play it safe? Let’s dive into what we know so far.

With Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 stealing the spotlight at last year’s Paris Olympics (thanks to a strategic partnership that landed it in athletes’ hands), the company enjoyed a major boost in brand exposure. But with fierce competition from Huawei—and Motorola’s staggering 253% growth in foldables—Samsung needs a standout hit. Enter the Z Flip 7, poised to help Samsung reclaim the top spot.

When Will the Galaxy Z Flip 7 Launch?

If Samsung sticks to its usual playbook, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will debut at an Unpacked event in early July 2025, likely on a Wednesday (mark your calendars for July 2 or July 9). The South Korean site The JoongAng reports that Samsung is fast-tracking its summer launch, and a mid-July commercial release would mirror last year’s timeline (the Z Flip 6 hit shelves on July 19, 2024).

It’s worth noting that Samsung shook things up in 2024 by moving its event ahead of the Olympics, so the company could surprise us again. But unless you’ve got insider invites, expect an announcement in the first half of July, followed by preorders in the week after that.

Expected Price

Pricing details for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 are still under wraps, but we can make an educated guess based on its predecessor. Last year, Samsung offered the highest-storage variant (512 GB) at the price of the 256 GB model at launch—an incentive strategy we wouldn’t be surprised to see again.

If that trend holds, look for a starting price in the ballpark of $1,000 to $1,100 for the base model, with higher-capacity versions inching closer to $1,200. And if rumors of a budget-friendly Fan Edition (FE) variant pan out, we might see a sub-$900 option aimed squarely at Motorola’s Razr 60.

Design and Displays

One of the most exciting upgrades rumored for the Z Flip 7 centers on its outer display. After years of a 3.4-inch cover screen, Samsung is reportedly boosting it to somewhere between 3.6 and 4 inches—finally matching Motorola’s Razr 60 Ultra. That extra real estate will not only make notifications and widgets easier to read, but it also forces a fresh design for housing the camera lenses.

On the inside, the main foldable screen could tick up by about 0.05 inches, flanked by slimmer 1.2 mm bezels. Samsung is also said to be tweaking its hinge to minimize the crease, a feature many users have been longing for. Despite the larger displays, the Z Flip 7 should remain just as slim—or even a tad slimmer—than the Z Flip 6’s 6.9 mm thickness.

Performance

According to leaker Jukanlosreve, Samsung may finally ditch Qualcomm chips in favor of its own Exynos 2500 for the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Production issues held the chip back from Galaxy S25 models, but those kinks are supposedly ironed out. The company stands to save on costs by using in-house silicon, potentially passing on benefits to consumers.

While Snapdragon 8 Elite shoved into a compact flip design (as tested on the Razr 60 Ultra) proved a handful to cool, the Exynos 2500 could be a smarter fit—especially if Samsung pairs it with an improved thermal system. Performance benchmarks will tell the final story, but it sounds promising.

Camera

Don’t expect a radical overhaul in the camera hardware department. Early reports suggest the Z Flip 7 will stick with last year’s dual-lens setup, focusing instead on software enhancements. Samsung’s ProVisual Engine—introduced on the Galaxy S25—could arrive on the Flip 7 to boost low-light shots and color processing.

Night Mode improvements and upgraded computational photography features will likely be the main attractions. If Samsung nails the software side, you’ll get crisp selfies on the cover screen and pro-level shots without changing hardware specs.

Software

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to ship with Android 16 and Samsung’s new One UI 8. Among the fresh features: memory expansion up to 12 GB on the flip model (up from 8 GB), revamped Samsung Messages, and a neat “Listen Brief” voice summary to keep you updated on the day’s notifications hands-free.

One UI 8 might also introduce Log video recording on the inner camera and deeper customization for the cover screen widgets—perfect for quick glances at your calendar, music controls, or even social feeds.

Battery and Charging

Battery capacity is rumored to inch up from 4,000 to 4,300 mAh, which could translate to noticeably better endurance. With any luck, the Exynos 2500’s efficiency gains will stretch your daily usage without leaving you hunting for a charger by late afternoon.

On the charging front, don’t expect big jumps: we’re likely looking at 25W wired and 15W wireless speeds—standard Samsung fare, but admittedly outpaced by many competitors offering faster charging today.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE

As a sleeper hit, Samsung may unveil a Fan Edition of the Z Flip 7 at the same Unpacked event. The Z Flip 7 FE could blend the slick design of the Z Flip 6 with the internals of the Z Flip 5—creating a budget-friendly flip that doesn’t feel cheap.

Word is the FE version will aim for an $800–$1,000 price bracket, making it a strong contender against Motorola’s midrange Razr. If Samsung pulls it off, you’ll get foldable fun on a friendlier budget.
